A downed power wire has suspended NJ Transit service between New York and Trenton and led to the evacuation of an area business.
According to police, at approximately 3:15 p.m., high winds caused a high-tension power line to fall on the train tracks near the Linden Train Station.
Although no one was injured, the incident has caused a loss of power to trains along the Northeast Corridor.
Approximately 300 passengers were stranded in Linden Train Station following the incident.
The NJ Transist announced that service between Newark and Trenton is suspended until further notice. They are working to provide bus service for those stranded passengers.
As a precaution, the Linden Fire Department evacuated a business on the 400 block of Pennsylvania Railroad Avenue due to their close proximity to the downed wire.
NJ Transit, Amtrak, and PSE&G representatives are on scene working to repair the lines.
Pennsylvania Railroad Avenue remains closed between Clinton Street & Carteret Street but all major roadways remain open.
According to the mayor of Linden, Officials from NJ Transit and PSE&G have assured us that they are doing everything they can to restore service as soon as possible. The weather will continue to get worse as people drive home, so we ask everyone to please slow down and drive safely.
