Police announced the arrest of Allen Thomas, 29, and Timothy Winchester, 19, both of Newark, in connection with a carjacking that occurred yesterday.
According to authorities, at approximately 2:15 p.m., an officer was flagged down by a man whose vehicle was stolen at gunpoint in the 300-block of 15th Avenue.
Officials say two male suspects drove off in the victim’s vehicle, which was located in a parking lot in the 400-block of South 10th Street. Officers canvassing the area for the suspects, observed a man who fit the description of one of the suspects running.
The suspect, Allen Thomas, was immediately apprehended. The second suspect, Timothy Winchester, also ran from a building in the area but was subsequently apprehended. Police recovered a 9mm handgun as well as a replica handgun.
According to authorities, both Thomas and Winchester each face charges of Carjacking, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose and Conspiracy.
These charges are merely accusations. Each suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
