Two teens in a stolen car have been pronounced dead after a serious crash in Newark early Friday morning.
According to preliminary reports, police closed off a large area around the vicinity of Bergen Street between Clinton and Avon avenues at approximately 5:30 a.m. to investigate a crash at the intersection of Madison Avenue.
Officials say two teens in a stolen vehicle were driving at a high rate of speed when they lost control, struck a pole, overturned, struck a parked van, and then both vehicles were ultimately pushed into a nearby home.
Police say both occupants - only described as teen - were pronounced dead at the scene. Officers allegedly also found a weapon inside the vehicle.
The investigation is in the very early stages and The Essex County Prosecutor's Office will take the lead on this incident.
