The family of a Rutgers University Student who went missing after leaving his East Orange home in late March has confirmed with RLS Media that emergency responders pulled his body from a pond in Orange on Saturday afternoon.
According to the family, on Sunday, March 29, Mr. Yasir Williams, 21, left his Edgar Street home at around 11:30 p.m. and never made contact with them.
Authorities checked surveillance cameras in the area where they ultimately located Yasir’s hoodie and wallet during a search in the vicinity of Wayne Avenue and Sanford Street in East Orange.
According to officials, at around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 11, Orange Emergency Responders and the Essex County Sheriff’s Department were notified of a body floating in a pond at Orange Park.
The State Regional Medical Examiners Office confirmed Yasir’s identity today and stated that there was no foul play involved according to family members.
Yasir’s family sends a heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined in the search and expressed their love through social media.
While the family asked for privacy, they urge the community to please keep them in your prayers during these difficult times.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office has not released an official statement at this time.
