The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Fatal Accident Investigation Unit and the Fort Lee Police Department are investigating a fatal hit-and-run that occurred just before 5:00 p.m. Wednesday night, December 19, on Main Street in the area of Jones Road in Fort Lee, NJ.
Officials say a preliminary investigation revealed that the 61-year-old female victim was struck by a westbound box truck, then hit again by an eastbound Mercedes-Benz SUV.
The box truck remained on the scene, but the Mercedes-Benz fled the area.
However, the BCPO’s Fatal Accident Investigation Unit and the Fort Lee Police Department have since located the driver of the Mercedes-Benz SUV, and the driver is in custody according to Bergen County officials.
The incident is in its early stages of the investigation.
