NJ State Police officials are continuing to investigate a crash that caused severe injuries on a highway in Essex County on Tuesday night.
According to a statement released by NJ State Police officials, Troopers responded to a motor vehicle accident on I-280 westbound at mile marker 8.6 in West Orange just before 9:10 p.m.
Police officials say upon arrival, emergency crews found that a 2004 BMW driven by Jean C. Molinares-Principe, 36 of Teaneck and a 2018 Ford Pickup truck operated by Lisa A. Rankin, 54 of Belleville were traveling on I-280 west when Rankin's vehicle impacted the rear of the BMW.
According to NJ State Police officials, as a result of the collision, the occupants in the BMW -**M. Molinares, 3-years-old, N. Molinares, 4-years-old, G. Mercado-Nacith, 36,**- all suffered severe injuries and the driver sustained moderate injuries. They were transported to the hospital and remained there.
Police say Lisa A. Rankin suffered minor injuries.
The crash caused a two-hour delay on the highway as motorists sat bumper to bumper for several miles.
NJ State Police officials have reported no arrests or summonses at this time.
