Police say on Thursday, at approximately 6:00 p.m., the Jersey City Police Department received a report of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle at the intersection of East Linden Avenue and Route 185 in Jersey City.
Upon arrival at that intersection, responding Police Officers found a 54-year-old pedestrian with serious injuries to his lower extremities according to police.
The Bayonne resident was found at the scene near obvious debris from a hot dog vending cart located adjacent to the roadway.
Police say they found a crashed and abandoned BMW was found a short distance away.
The victim, later found to be the operator of the hot dog vending cart, was transported by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center.
According to police, the victim remains in the hospital in stable condition.
The initial investigation by the Hudson County Regional Fatal Collision Unit and the Jersey City Police Department determined that the BMW and a second vehicle were traveling north on Route 185.
The BMW crashed into the vendor who was standing beside his cart on the north side of East Linden Avenue.
The Hudson County Regional Fatal Collision Unit is actively investigating this case with assistance from the Jersey City Police Department.
