City Officials and employees would like to offer heartfelt condolences to all families and individuals that have been affected by this tragic incident.
As the crash investigation continues, preliminary results reveal that high speed was not a factor.
However, the driver of the 2001 Ford Taurus failed to come to a complete stop at the intersection as he had the stop sign. The driver, a 28-year-old driver city resident, has been issued a violation for failure to stop at the stop sign.
Investigators are still speaking with other occupants of the 2003 Toyota Sienna to determine if the 10-year-old was wearing a seat belt among other critical details.
At this time, due to the ages of passengers involved, the grieving family and the privacy of all those affected, the names of anyone involved in this crash are being withheld, officials announced.
Officials respectfully request that members of the press honor the request for privacy.
The City of Plainfield has been moving forward with many initiatives placing a top priority on public safety. Over the past few months, the Plainfield Police Division has made reducing speed complaints within the City a priority. We have increased enforcement in various areas based upon statistics and citizen’s complaints. We have been analyzing data and working with the City Engineer to consider placing four way stops at various intersections on the West and East ends of the city. The intersection of Arlington Avenue and West 9th Street were amongst the area intersections that we have been researching.
We are hopeful that the 4 way stops will help minimize the speeding and/or potential crashes however; we know they are not a full proof measure. More importantly, we are asking all residents and non residents that travel within the City, to obey the speed limits, remain alert to stop signs, traffic lights, and to wear seat belts.
