UPDATE: Authorities Investigate Deadly Shooting on Outdoor Basketball Court in Newark

Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, and Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Frage have reported that authorities are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on Thursday, June 13. AdOfficials said shortly after 9:00 pm, Newark Police Department officers were dispatched to the area of Boys Park at Sussex Avenue and Duryea Street following reports of shots fired.

Upon arrival, officers found a male victim near the basketball court suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

The victim, identified as 25-year-old Mr. Raymeer Shakim Tarver of Newark, was transported to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:42 p.m.

The incident is being investigated by the Prosecutor’s Homicide Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department.

The investigation is active and ongoing, with no additional information currently available.
