UPDATE: Authorities Identify Woman Killed in Newark Police Pursuit

Newark -- Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert D. Laurino announced today the Essex County Prosecutor's Office is investigating a police pursuit during which a pedestrian was struck and killed.

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office identified the pedestrian as Ms. Priscilla Goday, 29, of Newark.

Authorities say Goday sustained fatal injuries when she was struck crossing South 14th Street.

According to a statement released by police, the incident occurred at approximately 10:44 p.m. Saturday where a preliminary investigation indicates investigation indicates that two males in a stolen Jeep Cherokee carjacked at gunpoint a victim driving a 2011 Ford Taurus in East Orange.

The Jeep, which was believed to be involved in a shooting earlier, was spotted by Newark Police in the vicinity Bergen and Chadwick.

Authorities say Newark Police officers pursued the vehicle when the suspect's vehicle crashed into another driver forcing his car into parked cars.

The female victim, Ms. Goday, was pinned between two parked cars. EMS rushed her to University Hospital where doctors pronounced her dead at midnight.

The investigation, which is being handled by the Homicide and Professional Standards Bureau of the Essex County Prosecutor's Office, is active and ongoing.

"At this time no arrests have been made," authorities said.
