Authorities have release the identity of the 64-year-old Old Bridge man killed last night in a multi-vehicle crash on the Garden State Parkway in Clark.
Police were call to the southbound side of the Garden State Parkway at mile-marker 135.4 in Clark Township at approximately 7:39 p.m. for serious crash.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the driver of a 2016 Dodge Caravan was pulled over on the shoulder when the driver exited the vehicle. Shortly after exiting, the Dodge Caravan reportedly started to reverse into the travel lanes. A 2014 Nissan Altima traveling struck the unoccupied Dodge which then struck the driver of the Caravan that had exited the vehicle, police added.
Subsequently a chain-reaction ensued where a 2017 Hyundai Elantra traveling south struck the Dodge Caravan, a 1999 Honda Accord traveling south struck the Hyundai and a 2013 Toyota Corolla traveling south attempted an evasive maneuver to avoid the crash but was ultimately struck by the Dodge Caravan.
The Sam Girgis, 64, of Old Bridge, was the driver of the Caravan and suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash.
The southbound lanes were closed for approximately 4 hours, and traffic was diverted off of exit 135,
according to police.
