A 28-year-old Elizabeth woman was taken into custody Saturday, after a hit-and-run that killed a city man Saturday night on Delaware Street.
Saturday police responded to Delaware Street for a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.
Elizabeth Fire Department EMS crews, paramedics from Trinitas Regional Medical Center and the Union County Sheriff's identification bureau responded to the scene where they found Jose Ferreira with traumatic injuries.
Ferreira was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to reports, witnesses told police that the driver - later identified as 28-year-old Jazmene Williams - fled on foot leaving leaving her green Acura behind after the accident.
Williams surrendered later that night, admitting she was the driver involved in the Delaware Street incident.
Williams has been charged with driving with a suspended license, and the second-degree offense of leaving the scene of a fatal accident.
