Newark – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose announced today that the Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department, is investigating a triple shooting that resulted in two deaths.
According to police Saturday afternoon three people were shot in the area of 45 Mercer Street in Newark, two males and a female.
Police say the males sustained fatal injuries.
They have been identified as Mr. Jasson Duffy, 30, of Newark and Mr. Hassan Ward, 30, also of Newark.
The surviving female victim, whose name is not being released at this time, is in critical but stable condition according to police.
The preliminary investigation indicates that Duffy was sitting outside along with Ward when an unknown person approached the two and shot them both.
The female appears to have been hit by a stray bullet according to police.
The investigation is active and ongoing. At this time no arrests have been made.
