UPDATE: Authorities ID Man Struck, Killed by Vehicle in Burlington County

Burlington County

Authorities have identified the 55-year-old man who was struck and killed by a vehicle as he attempted to cross Route 130 in Burlington County early Sunday morning.

According to officials, on August 19th at approximately 3:30 a.m., police responded to Route 130 South near Public Storage for a report of a pedestrian strike.

Upon arrival, emergency responders found Thomas J. Campbell Jr., 55, severely injured. Police say Campbell Jr. subsequently succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say a preliminary investigation determined that Campbell Jr. climbed over the center median, in attempts of crossing Route 130, when a Black 2016 Subaru struck him. Officials say the driver of the vehicle was unable to stop his car immediately due to vehicle damage but stayed near the Cooper Street intersection to await police arrival.

According to authorities, no charges are being filed against the driver of the involved vehicle at this time.

Officials say that this appears to be another instance where a pedestrian attempted to cross Route 130 in a dark area with little lighting and not at the crosswalk as required.

According to police, pedestrians are urged only to cross when having the right of way and not to attempt to judge the closing distances of vehicles on any roadway as it is challenging to do so without experience and training, especially with vehicles moving at highway speeds.

Anyone with information, or was a witness to the incident and can provide information, is asked to contact the Edgewater Park Township Police Department at 609-877-4404.
