The investigation into a late Thursday afternoon bank robbery in Kearny is continuing, according to authorities.
According to police, officers responded to Schuyler Savings Bank on Davis Avenue at approximately 5:20 p.m. to investigate a bank robbery.
Upon arrival, police were informed that a white bald man, approximately 5’9” who entered the bank passed the teller a note demanding money. The teller complied, the suspect took the note back and fled with an undisclosed amount of money.
The investigation into the robbery remains ongoing but authorities believe that shortly after fleeing the bank, a Kearny police officer had an encounter with the suspect.
According to police, an officer on patrol observed a man - fitting the description of bank robber - hiding something inside the vehicle.
As the officers approached the vehicle, the driver sped away, dragging the officer a short distance.
Despite efforts to chase the vehicle onto Route 280, police lost sight of the vehicle as it headed west.
The officer was not seriously injured and has since returned to work.
