UPDATE: Arson Task Force Investigating Fatal Apartment Fire in Jersey City

Authorities in Hudson County announced that the Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force and the Jersey City Fire Department are investigating a fatal fire that occurred on Thursday.AdHudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said at about 4:50 a.m., the Jersey City Fire Department was notified of a fire in a high-rise residential building located at 270 Marin Boulevard.

Officials stated emergency responders found smoke coming from a unit on the twelfth floor.

An unresponsive male – later identified as Ramon Abello, 61, of Jersey City – was located inside a unit and transported to Jersey City Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead just after 6:45 a.m., according to officials.

Authorities say the cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation by the Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force and the Jersey City Fire Department.

Foul play is not suspected at this time, officials say.
