A ShotSpotter activation that alerted police of gunfire in a Newark South Ward neighborhood had police take one person into custody. Police say they are now on the search for two other assailants who fled the scene.
According to preliminary reports, about four round of gunfire rang out in the vicinity of 401 Clinton Place at approximately 4:45 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
Newark South Ward officers who arrived at the scene found evidence that a shooting occurred, but after a search of the area, they were not able to locate any injured victims according to reports.
Police officers canvassed several South Ward blocks and said they spotted a person fitting the description in the area of Schuyler and Lyons avenues. Police say after a brief investigation, they placed the suspect into custody and found a loaded weapon in his possession.
According to police, two other suspects ran from the scene and remain at-large.
The incident remains under investigation.
