Authorities in Essex County reported that Mr. Fuquan Johnson, 34, of Newark, has been charged with murder for the fatal shooting of Mr. Tanton Venable, 47, of Newark.
According to a statement released by Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Spokesman Robert Florida, police responded to a report of a shooting in the 100 block of First Street in Newark.
Police found Venable suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in the parking lot of The Garden Spires Housing development.
Spokesman Florida said Venable was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:55 a.m.
Authorities said Johnson was arrested and charged with first-degree murder for the killing of Venable.
He was also charged with second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, second-degree possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, second-degree certain persons, and third-degree receiving stolen property.
Authorities said Johnson is in custody in the Essex County jail.
