Detectives have charged a man in reference to a homicide in Camden last month, announced Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay and Camden County Police Chief Gabriel Rodriguez.
Police say Derrick Miller, 36, of Camden, was charged on July 15, 2022 with one count of first-degree Murder in connection to the fatal shooting of 37-year-old Charles Copling III of Camden.
According to police, on June 17, 2022, at approximately 11:59 a.m., officers from the Camden County Police Department responded to the 1200 block of Decatur Street, Camden, New Jersey, in reference to a ShotSpotter activation.
Upon arrival, officers located the victim lying on the ground and suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Police say Camden Officers transported the victim to Cooper University Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at approximately 4:00 p.m. on June 17, 2022.
Miller is currently incarcerated in the Camden County Correctional Facility on other charges. He was served with the first-degree Murder charge on July 15, 2022.
