Police have now determined that more than $500,000 went flying out the Brinks armored truck Thursday morning after a malfunction caused the door to become unsecured.
Police say the investigation determined that two plastic bags containing $140,000 and $370,000, that ultimately opened, spilled onto the roadway.
Officials say that between passing motorists and windy weather conditions the money scattered across the highway.
According to authorities, between Brinks personnel and motorists, $205,375 was collected. However, police say $293,535 is still missing.
The East Rutherford Police Department is continuing to investigate the incident and is requesting any person with video or images to contact the East Rutherford Police Department at 201-438-0165.
