The neighbors and friends of a woman who suffered a fatal gunshot wound after armed men ambushed, then stole her vehicle while her nephew watched in horror on a Newark West Ward street has identified her.
According to preliminary reports, the incident unfolded just before 11 p.m. in the 300 block of South 20th Street where family members said, Ms. Shuri Henry, 40, just enjoyed a festive Thanksgiving Dinner with family in West Orange and was returning to her home on South 20th Street with her young nephew accompanying when as many as four males approached armed with guns and demanded Ms. Henry's car.
During the violent interaction, one of the men reportedly fired the gun striking Ms. Henry in the chest while the child observed neighbors told RLS Metro Breaking News.
Police and EMS rushed to the scene where they found Ms. Henry unconscious and unresponsive after suffering an apparent gunshot wound reports said.
EMS rushed her to University Hospital where doctors pronounced her dead shortly before 11:30 p.m. The child did not suffer physical injuries.
Police are on the search for the suspects who fled in a burgundy Kia Sorento that reportedly belong to Ms. Henry.
Neighbors told RLS Metro Breaking News that Ms. Henry just buried her mother about four months ago and was beginning to overcome that situation.

**ECPO UPDATE 6:38 am** The incident occurred shortly before 11:00 p.m. Newark officers were dispatched to the 300 block of South 20th Street on reports of a person shot. Arriving officers located a woman, who was shot during an apparent carjacking, according to Fennelly.
This victim was transported to University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 11:28 p.m. She has been identified as Sharie Henry, age 40, of Newark. The victim's **2005 Kia Sorrento, bearing NJ registration D71-FYE** was taken during this incident.
