Police officials in Elizabeth are on the search for a male who showed up at a parking lot at a location in the city and fired shots that struck an Amazon driver on Thursday morning.
According to a preliminary investigation, police say at approximately 11:05 a.m., gunfire rang out in the rear of the Dunkin Donuts restaurant located in the 700 block of Spring Street.
When police arrived at the scene, they found a male victim suffering a bullet wound in his side.
Elizabeth City Spokeswoman Kelly Martins said the unidentified male victim was transported to University Hospital in Newark and remains in stable condition.
Spokeswoman Martins said she could not confirm any additional information from the shooting.
Company officials at Amazon confirmed with RLS Media that the victim is a driver for an independent company that does deliveries for Amazon and the location is an off-site parking lot for the establishment's delivery trucks.
According to sources familiar with the investigation, the suspect reportedly wore an Amazon uniform when he began firing shots at the victim inside the lot.
Amazon officials have not confirmed if the suspect is an employee of the company at this time. He fled the scene and remains at-large according to police.
