Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Chief Ibrahim Baycora announce that at approximately 3:01 p.m. on Tuesday, December 29, 2020, police responded to the area of Memorial Drive and Broadway in Paterson in response to a pedestrian who had been struck by a motor vehicle.
Police say the motor vehicle, a 2012 Toyota Corolla, was being operated by Alyssa Lorenzo, 21, from Paterson and was traveling southbound on Memorial Drive towards Van Houten Street when it struck the pedestrian, identified as Mary Bitner, 82, of Paterson.
Police say Ms. Bitner was transported to Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center in Paterson, where she was pronounced deceased at 5:35 p.m. Ms. Lorenzo remained at the scene of the collision and presented a valid driver’s license.
No charges have been filed at this time, however this investigation remains active and ongoing.
