According to Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll, Chief of Detectives Robert McNally and Roxbury Police Chief Dean Adone, an investigation into the drowning death of a child is confirmed.
Officials say that on July 12, at approximately 3:37 p.m., law enforcement was dispatched to a residence in the Flanders section of Roxbury on a report of an 8-year-old male juvenile found face down in a nearby creek.
Attempts were made by the Roxbury Township Police Department and paramedics to resuscitate the child, but they were unsuccessful.
The child was transferred to St. Clare’s Hospital in Dover, where he was pronounced deceased.
While the investigation remains ongoing, the incident has been deemed not suspicious at this time.
Officials said that because the deceased is a juvenile, no further identifying information will be provided.
Out of consideration for the child’s family, the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office asks for the public to respect their privacy.
Anyone with information about this investigation is encouraged to make contact with the Roxbury Police Department at 973-448-2100 or the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office at 973-285-6200. Media inquiries concerning this press release should be directed to mknab@co.morris.nj.us.
