UPDATE: 8-Year-Old Boy Struck by Vehicle in Jersey City Dies

Police said, on Saturday at approximately 4:45 p.m., Jersey City Police Officers responded to the area of Christopher Columbus Drive and Grove Street on a report of a pedestrian struck with life-threatening injuries.

Upon their arrival, responding officers found that Jeremiah Grant, 8, of Jersey City, the apparent victim of motor vehicle strike.

Police said EMS transported Grant to Jersey City Medical Center by where he was pronounced dead at approximately 5:05 p.m.

An initial investigation found that the young boy was struck by a red Jeep Compass traveling westbound on Christopher Columbus Drive.

The driver, a 60-year-old man from Union City, stopped in the area of 114 Christopher Columbus Drive after passing motorists and pedestrians alerted him that his vehicle had struck a pedestrian.

Police said he remained at that location as the incident was investigated.

"At this time, no charges have been filed and there have been no summons issued to the driver" police said.

The incident is being investigated by the Jersey City Police Department Crash Unit with assistance by the Office of the Hudson County Prosecutor.

The investigation is active and ongoing.
