Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose reports that members of the Newark Fire Division extinguished a two-alarm fire today.
Officials say at approximately 5:05 p.m., firefighters responded to 48 South 12th Street on a call of a fire. The incident was upgraded to a second alarm at 5:13 p.m. and some 65 firefighters responded.

According to officials, the fire extended to two adjacent buildings at 46 and 50 South 12th Street. Each building is a three-story, multiple family residential structure.
Firefighters rescued a 6-year old girl trapped on the third floor of 46 S. 12th St. The child was treated at by EMS according to officials.
No other injuries have been reported officials said.
Three families, including six adults and one child have been relocated by the Newark Fire Division and American Red Cross as a result of this incident.
The fire was considered under control at 5:50 p.m.
The original building at 48 South 12th Street will be demolished.
Members of the Newark Fire Division’s Arson Unit are investigating the cause and origin of this fire.
