Somerset County authorities announced an investigation into a drowning of a four-year-old in the early evening hours of Friday in the area of North Shore Drive in Bridgewater.
Prosecutor Robertson stated that at approximately 8:37 p.m., Bridgewater Township Police received a 9-1-1 call reporting a child drowning in Sunset Lake, Bridgewater Township.
Upon arrival, officers observed bystanders administering CPR on the child and immediately took over life-saving measures. Liberty Corner EMS was dispatched to the scene and transported the child along with Robert Wood Johnson Paramedics to a nearby hospital while continuing life-saving measures.
The child, identified as a four-year-old Bridgewater boy was subsequently pronounced deceased at the hospital.
Detectives from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Bridgewater Police Department responded to conduct an investigation which yielded preliminary results as an accidental drowning.
On Sunday, officials said the New Jersey Northern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office performed a post-mortem examination with preliminary findings ruled the child’s death an accident by drowning.
The final autopsy report along with the findings is pending.
