Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II and Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé announced that the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force is investigating the murder of Mr. Jabari A. Mason, 31, of Newark.
According Essex County Spokesman Robert Florida, at 11:27 a.m., Friday, police responded to a report of a victim lying inside the parking garage on the 400 block of Mt. Prospect Avenue, bleeding and suffering what was first believe to be a gunshot wound.
County officials said a further investigation indicated that Mason suffered from apparent stab wounds.
He was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:40 a.m.
The investigation is active and ongoing. No arrests have been made.
