A shooting that left one man dead and another seriously injured in Plainfield last night is under active investigation, acting Union County Prosecutor Lyndsay V. Ruotolo and Plainfield Police Director Lisa Burgess jointly announced Friday.
Officials said the deceased victim has been identified as 30-year-old Cory Johnson of Plainfield.
Just before 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 20, members of the Plainfield Police Division responded to a report of gunshots on the 400 block of Grant Avenue and found Johnson and a second adult male shooting victim there, according to the preliminary investigation.
Johnson was subsequently pronounced dead, while the second victim was rushed to a local hospital for emergency treatment, after which he was listed in critical but stable condition.
This investigation is being led by the Union County Homicide Task Force and assisted by members of the Plainfield Police Division, Union County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit, and Union County Police Department Ballistics Unit.
