Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose, III have announced that authorities are investigating a shooting homicide early this morning in Newark, NJ.
According to police, at approximately 1:45 a.m., Newark police officers responded to reports of a shooting in the area of 160 Mt. Prospect Avenue.
Arriving units located an unresponsive male suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
Police say the victim was rushed to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:07 am, according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly of the Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit.
Police identified the victim as Malik Carson, 27, of Newark.
This incident is being investigated by the Prosecutor’s Homicide Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department.
The investigation is active and ongoing.
