Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, revealed that the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force is currently investigating the death of Mr. Kareem Abdul Jarmon Guilford, Jr., 22, from East Orange.
The young man tragically lost his life to a shooting incident in on the border of Newark/East Orange.
The incident happened on December 23, when, at approximately 6:13 p.m., Newark police were called to the scene of a shooting on the 100 block of Mountainview Avenue.
Upon arrival, officers found Guilford suffering from a fatal gunshot wound. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:34 p.m.
As the investigation continues, authorities have not yet made any arrests in connection with the shooting.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office is actively seeking information from the public and has encouraged anyone with relevant details to contact their tips line at 1-877-TIPS-4EC (1-877-847-7432).
They assure that all calls will be treated with confidentiality.
The community is now left in mourning and in hope for answers as the investigation progresses.
