Linden Police are investigating a late-night shooting incident that led to the arrest of a 17-year-old boy from Newark early Sunday morning.
Shortly after midnight on March 23, officers responded to a report of gunfire outside the Applebee’s restaurant on West Edgar Road.
According to authorities, four individuals entered the restaurant and, upon spotting their target, chased him outside. Several gunshots were fired during the pursuit, though no one was injured.
The suspects fled the scene before officers arrived.
A search of the surrounding area led officers to two individuals who matched descriptions provided by witnesses.
When approached near the intersection of West 15th Street and South Stiles Street, the pair attempted to flee. Following a brief foot chase and struggle, police detained a 17-year-old male.
Two handguns were recovered during the arrest.
The teen is facing multiple juvenile charges, including aggravated assault and unlawful possession of a weapon.
He is currently being held at the Essex County Juvenile Detention Facility, awaiting a Family Court appearance.
The remaining suspects have not yet been identified. The Linden Police Juvenile Aid Bureau continues to investigate and urges anyone with information to contact Detective Jacyn McPhail at (908) 474-8520 or via email at jmcphail@lpdnj.org.
