Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri announced today that an investigation by the Mercer County Homicide Task Force (MCHTF) and the Trenton Shooting Response Team has led to the arrest of a 15-year-old Trenton male for the shooting death of Luis Torres Marrero.
The defendant is charged with one count of first-degree murder, one count of second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and one count of second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.
He was arrested without incident on July 24, 2024, in Norfolk, Virginia, by the United States Marshals Service.
He will be held in Virginia pending extradition to Mercer County.
At approximately 12:25 a.m. on July 9, 2024, Trenton police responded to the 200 block of East Hanover Street following a report of a sick or injured person.
Upon arrival, officers found Luis Torres Marrero, 47, of Trenton, suffering from a gunshot wound to his head.
The victim was transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries on July 14.
The investigation is ongoing.
