A township woman accused of tweeting threatening messages against black students at Kean University was denied entrance to a probationary program that would ultimately expunged charges from her record.
Kayla McKelvey, 24, of Union, a 2015 Kean graduate, applied for pre-trial intervention or PTI after being charged with creating a false public alarm, a third-degree crime.
However, the Union County Assistant Prosecutor Shawn Barnes informed the judge today that his office rejected McKelvey's Pre-Trial application. A six-month jail term for was offered in exchange for a guilty plea. In addition, McKelvey would also have to pay restitution for the effects of the threats.
The next court hearing for March 23.
