A Union Township woman accused an University alumni accused of
posting a series of threatening posts targeting black students on Twitter, pleaded not guilty in her first appearance in court today.
Kayla McKelvey, 24, of Union, who was charged with creating a false public alarm after posting anonymous tweets from a computer in a university library on Nov. 17, after attending the rally on campus that night but left briefly to go to the library, where she created an anonymous Twitter account (@keanuagainstblk) to send the threatening tweets.
During today's first appearance before Judge Joan Robinson Grossbrief, McKelvey's attorney, Thomas Ashley said McKelvey would like to be considered for pre-trial intervention, a probationary program for first-time offenders, since she has no prior record.
If convicted, McKelvey could face a maximum penalty of five years in prison.
