Union Police officials are investigating an armed carjacking and an attempted carjacking that occurred on Friday night in Township.
According to Union Police, the first incident occurred at approximately 12:24 a.m. Friday morning when a delivery order was placed from an address on Tower Street in the Vauxhall section of town to a local pizza restaurant.
Union Police said the delivery driver arrived at the location and was met by a young adult male who told him he placed the order.
Police say when the driver got out of the vehicle to get the food out of the rear of his car, the male suspect jumped into the driver’s seat and attempted to drive away.
According to police, the victim was able to pull the suspect from the vehicle after a brief struggle. The suspect then fled on foot without the car but did steal the food.
No weapons were shown or threatened during the incident according to Union Police officials.
In the other incident, Union Police said a female victim parked her 2015 Honda Accord in a parking lot off Walker Avenue in the Mill Run Complex just before 11:54 p.m.
Police say, while the unidentified woman remained in her car with the door open, she was approached by a male suspect who pointed a handgun at her and demanded that she exit the vehicle.
Union police said the woman complied and the suspect made off in her vehicle.
Officers canvassing the area for the suspect found the car parked and unoccupied in neighboring Irvington Township.
"At this time, there is no indication that these incidents are related in any way. Detective Michael Theissen is actively investigating both cases. He can be reached at 908-851-5042" officials said.
