In a shocking incident on the evening of December 19th, the Union Police Department was called to the 1700 block of Rt. 22 following a report of a shooting.
The incident occurred just before 8:00 p.m., leading to a rapid response from local officers.Upon arrival, the police discovered a 39-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound in his leg.
The victim, who was operating his vehicle on Rt. 22 East at the time of the incident, received immediate first aid. Officers applied a tourniquet to control the bleeding until further medical help arrived.
The victim was quickly transported to University Hospital in Newark.
There, he underwent surgery for his injuries, which were determined to be non-life-threatening. In an unfortunate turn of events, a 41-year-old passenger in the same vehicle was also taken to the hospital.This individual sustained a minor graze wound and was later released after receiving necessary treatment.
The Union County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Unit joined forces with the local police to assist in the investigation of this alarming occurrence.
The details surrounding the motive of the shooting are still unclear and form a significant part of the ongoing investigation.
