Union Liquor Store Employees Struck by Uhaul Truck After Requesting Customer to Wear Mask in Store

Union Township (Union)

Police in Union are on the search for the driver of a truck who struck store employees after an incident that initially transpired inside a store Wednesday night.

According to Union Police Captain Scott Breslow, at 7:59 PM police headquarters received a 9-1-1 call from an employee at Aarti’s Liquors locates at 1675 Rt. 22 west reporting a dispute where someone was injured.

Captain Breslow said officers responded to Aarti’s and found injured employees in the parking lot.

Union Police investigating the incident determined that a customer entered the store without a mask as required by current COVID-19 health guidelines.

Police say the employees advised the man that he needed to wear a mask in their store or vacate immediately.

According to police, the man threatened the employees then left the establishment.

Captain Breslow said two of the workers went outside to see if they could get a license plate of the car just in case the man returned and gave problems.

Police say the man got into a U-Haul truck that ended up striking both of the employees in the parking lot.

The driver of the U-Haul then left the parking lot and fled onto Rt. 22.

Captain Breslow said the two injured workers were taken to Trinitas Hospital by ambulance for further evaluation.

Police believe that this was an intentional act and not an accident. The injured workers did get a possible license plate on the U-Haul truck according to Captain Breslow.

The man who threatened the workers was described as a dark-skinned African American man in his late twenties.

Detectives are following up on the possible license plate and tracking all possible leads.
