Union County Middlesex County

A Union County man has been arrested and charged with sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl he recently met online, acting Union County Prosecutor Grace H. Park announced this afternoon.

Thomas Glavas, 21, of Linden was charged with second-degree sexual assault, third-degree endangering the welfare of a child, and fourth-degree criminal sexual contact.

The case was recently referred to the Union County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit by the Linden Police Department. An investigation revealed that Glavas allegedly met the young victim on a social networking website and soon thereafter arranged to meet her, picking her up from her home in Middlesex County and taking her to his home in Linden. There Glavas allegedly gave the victim alcohol and marijuana before sexually assaulting her.

Glavas was arrested without incident at his home early Thursday morning. Bail was set at $100,000 by state Superior Court Judge Scott J. Moynihan.

Second-degree crimes typically carry penalties of 5 to 10 years in state prison, while third-degree offenses result in typical sentences of 3 to 5 years.
