Police reported injuries after a fire ignited inside an apartment of a high-rise building in Newark on Tuesday morning.
According to a preliminary investigation, at approximately 2 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to a fire inside the Garden Spires Housing development located at 195 1st Street.
When police and rescue crews arrived, they found smoke coming from an apartment on the 8th floor.
Police say firefighters entered the apartment and found that occupants were out on their arrival, but a man was among two residents who suffered non-fatal burns.
Both victims were transported to the hospital for treatment while fire officials say the cause of the fire is believed to be accidental unattended cooking.
The investigation remains active
