Police announced the arrest of Angelica Lazu, 32, and Sandra Contancia, 39, both of Newark, for operating an illegal alcohol establishment.
Acting on complaints about the illegal sale of alcohol, police responded to Yocateo Restaurant, located at 211 Thomas Street, at approximately 8:25 p.m. yesterday to investigate.
Upon arrival, officers observed an employee serving beer from behind a bar.
Police say a manager, Angelica Lazu, arrived at the location and was unable to provide a valid liquor license. Officers immediately arrested her and all liquor and beer at the location was confiscated along with $176.00 in proceeds from the illegal sale of alcohol.
Police charged Lazu with two counts of Maintaining an Unlicensed Liquor Establishment, Unlawful Possession of Alcohol and Alcohol and Illegal Sale of Alcohol.
Officials say shortly before 7:50 p.m. on Jan. 30th, police responded to La Moda Café, located at 129 Ferry Street, in response to complaints about illegal alcohol sales. Officers observed patrons drinking beer and wine at a bar and a bartender serving drinks.
The bartender, Sandra Contancia, was unable to produce a valid liquor license and was immediately arrested. Assorted liquor and beers were confiscated along with $321.00 in proceeds from the illegal sale of alcohol.
Police charged Contancia with Maintaining an Unlicensed Liquor Establishment, Unlawful Possession of Alcohol and Illegal Sale of Alcohol.
These charges are merely accusations. Each suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
