Police in Newark are investigating a shooting incident that sent two victims to the hospital on Sunday night.
According to authorities, the shooting happened about a block from the mayor's house in the 900 block of Bergen Street near Scheerer Avenue shortly before 9 p.m.
Police said when officers arrived at the scene, they found the male victim suffering multiple gunshot wounds at that location. The victim was rushed to University Hospital for treatment of critical injuries.
While detectives worked the scene, officials at Beth Israel Hospital alerted them of a male who entered the emergency department suffering a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
Police say the walk-in victim was shot at the Bergen Street crime scene.
The motive for the shooting has not been determined at this time.
