Police in Newark's West Ward were on the scene of a shots-fired incident with two victims struck by gunfire Saturday morning.
According to a preliminary investigation, officers arrived at the scene and found a vehicle near West Side High School (403 South Orange Avenue) with a male suffering a bullet wound in his head.
A second individual was also located inside the car suffering gunshot wounds.
The pair were rushed to University Hospital, where doctors began to treat their injuries, but no official update was available on their conditions.
Detectives are determining if the victims were shot near the school or drove to the location after being shot somewhere else.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office was notified of the double shooting.
