Detectives for the Essex County Prosecutor's Office are investigating a shooting that that left two people shot with one of the victims suffering fatal injuries on the Belleville-Bloomfield border overnight.
Nutley Police set up a crime scene in the teen block of Berton Place in Belleville after gunfire rang out just before 9:30 p.m.
According to preliminary reports, an unidentified male was pronounced dead at the scene while Nutley EMS transported the second victim to University Hospital in Newark in an unknown condition.
Authorities have not released many details regarding the motive for the shooting but did confirm that the incident is not a police-involved shooting.
Police detained at least one person at the scene.
