Two Pemberton Township men have received lengthy prison sentences for the fatal shooting of an 18-year-old Willingboro High School student outside his home nearly four years ago, according to a statement released by the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office.

On Friday, Superior Court Judge Gerard H. Breland handed down a 110-year sentence to 27-year-old Kavon Carter and an 80-year term to his co-defendant, 23-year-old Sylas Young.

Both men were convicted in connection with the April 2021 murder of Yahsinn Robinson, who was gunned down outside his residence after returning home from work.

The investigation revealed that Carter and Young were part of an ongoing dispute between rival groups from Pemberton Township and the Buckingham Park section of Willingboro.

However, authorities determined that Robinson had no involvement in the conflict and was not associated with either group. Despite this, he became an innocent victim of the violence that had plagued the two factions.

“The loss of Yahsinn’s innocent, young life should never have occurred. It is the epitome of senseless,” Burlington County Prosecutor LaChia L. Bradshaw stated. “Our office remains steadfast in the fight against gang-related violence and ensuring justice for victims. Those who engage in violent criminal activity will be aggressively prosecuted and held fully accountable.”

A jury found Carter and Young guilty in December 2024 after a two-month trial.

The panel deliberated for approximately three hours before returning convictions on multiple charges, including first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder, gang criminality, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon.

Additionally, Carter was found guilty of promoting organized street crime and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.

Assistant Prosecutors Jamie Hutchinson and Colleen Gardner prosecuted the case. The investigation was led by the Willingboro Township Police Department and the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office, with support from the Pemberton Township Police Department.

Lead investigators included Willingboro Township Police Sergeant Brandon Smith and Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office Detective Sergeant Sean Tait.

Authorities continue to emphasize their commitment to combating violent crime and dismantling organized criminal activity within the community.
