Two NJ Men Plead Guilty to Assaulting Corrections Officers

Authorities in Atlantic County announced that on Thursday, May 16, Bilal Rex, 20, of Atlantic City, and Samir Abdullah, 21, of Galloway Twp., each pleaded guilty to a three-year term in New Jersey State Prison to charges of third-degree Aggravated Assault on a Corrections Employee.AdOfficials stated that on December 12, 2022, Rex and Abdullah assaulted two corrections officers while inside the Atlantic County Juvenile Detention Center.

Both Rex and Bilal are already serving terms of incarceration due to previous guilty pleas, officials said. 

Officials say the recommended three-year sentences are required to be served consecutively to their previously imposed sentences.

According to officials, sentencing will be July 11, 2024, in front of the Honorable Dorothy Incarvito-Garrabrant, J.S.C. Defendants will remain in custody pending sentencing.
