Police in Newark are investigating a double shooting that occurred in separate Newark neighborhoods overnight.
According to preliminary reports, in the first incident, police responded to the 200 block of 6th Avenue West after a ShotSpotter activation alerted officers of gunfire in the area.
Units arriving at the scene found multiple shell casings, but a search of the area did not reveal any victims according to reports.
Police say a blue 2005 GMC Yukon with license plate numbers "R64-JHD" several males occupied the vehicle that fired rounds then sped away from the scene.
According to police, shortly before 1 a.m., police responded to the vicinity 25 Branch Brook Place after receiving reports of shots fired. Units arriving at the scene found evidence that a shooting occurred as they canvassed for victims.
A male victim was transported to University Hospital suffering injuries according to reports.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
