Police took two men into custody who were wanted for a shooting that occurred in the city.
According to authorities, Justin Rodriguez, 23, and Ivan Figueroa, 20, were both in police custody early this morning having been sought for shooting a man on July 4th.
After obtaining warrants for the two men yesterday, detectives from the Department's Fugitive Apprehension arrested both suspects before 9am this morning.
Rodriguez was arrested in a Wakeman Avenue home with Figueroa arrested shortly thereafter in a Seabury Street residence. Police recovered a handgun and a bullet proof vest during Figueroa's arrest according to authorities.
Both Newark men were charged with aggravated assault, possession of a handgun, possession of a handgun for unlawful purposes with Figueroa facing the additional charges of possession of a gun, possession of a defaced gun and possession of a body armor.
Director Ambrose stated, "Detectives from the Cease Fire Shooting Response and the Fugitive Apprehension Teams have both excelled in their work. The quickly identified and arrested these two suspects for shooting another man.
Their quick and efficient work, definitely reduces the likelihood that someone else will be the victim of their reckless behavior".
