Two Jersey City Gang Members Sentenced for Role in Shooting, Drug Trafficking

Two members of a Jersey City gang linked to the Marion Gardens Housing Complex have been sentenced for their involvement in separate shootings and other gang-related crimes, U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger announced today.AdJakeem Gibson-Madison, also known as “Beanz,” 30, and Terick Rogers, also known as “Moot,” 32, both of Jersey City, received lengthy prison sentences for their roles in violent gang activities.

U.S. District Judge Claire C. Cecchi sentenced Gibson-Madison to 15 years in prison, while Rogers received a 16-year sentence.

Both men will also serve five years of supervised release following their prison terms.

Gibson-Madison and Rogers were members of a neighborhood street gang operating out of the Marion Gardens Housing Complex, where they were involved in distributing cocaine, heroin, and other controlled substances.

The gang regularly engaged in violent acts, including assaults, shootings, and even murders, often targeting rival gang members.

Gibson-Madison's involvement in one such act of violence occurred on January 9, 2019, when he drove a fellow gang member to the intersection of Grant Avenue and Ocean Avenue.

The target was a rival gang member, and the attack resulted in two people being shot, with a third victim narrowly escaping injury.AdRogers was implicated in another violent incident on June 30, 2018, when he and two other gang members collectively shot five people during a gathering in honor of a deceased gang member, known as “Meech Day.”

Both men were sentenced in Newark federal court, with the convictions reflecting the continued efforts of law enforcement to crack down on gang-related violence and drug trafficking in the Jersey City area.
