Newark authorities are investigating a Sunday evening shooting that left two males wounded in the city’s West Ward.

According to officials, the incident unfolded shortly before 7 p.m. when a ShotSpotter device detected gunfire in the area of 13th Avenue and South 6th Street.
Responding officers arrived to find shell casings scattered throughout the neighborhood, confirming that a shooting had taken place.
While canvassing the surrounding area, police located two male victims suffering from gunshot wounds in the vicinity of South Orange Avenue, between Littleton Avenue and South 6th Street.
Both individuals were transported a short distance to University Hospital, where they were treated for injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.
The motive behind the shooting remains under active investigation, and no arrests have been announced at this time.
Police are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
